Oustanding Ofsted Results at Newsome Academy

In a remarkable turnaround, Newsome Academy in Huddersfield, 1 of 8 schools in our Multi Academy Trust, has achieved an outstanding Ofsted rating, transforming from an ‘inadequate’ status to a well-deserved ‘good’ with outstanding attributes. This momentous accomplishment reflects the unwavering dedication and collaborative efforts of the entire school community.

A Journey of Transformation

With support from our Trust and visionary leadership from Headteacher Mr. Dean Watkin, Newsome Academy has undergone a significant transformation over the past few years. The school’s journey from ‘inadequate’ to ‘good’ is a testament to the hard work, commitment, and collaboration of its exceptional staff, supportive parents, and talented students.

Situated in the picturesque South Huddersfield countryside, Newsome Academy accommodates over 700 students and boasts approximately 100 dedicated teaching and support staff. Notably, the school stands out with two specialist provisions – one for hearing-impaired students and another for those with physical disabilities, fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Rising Above the Rest

With its upgraded Ofsted rating, Newsome Academy now stands higher in ranking compared to its competitors, Honley High and King James. The ‘good’ rating, coupled with ‘outstanding’ attributes in Overall Effectiveness, Behavior, and Attitudes, signifies the school’s commitment to excellence across various aspects.

Ofsted Inspectors were fortunate to visit Newsome Academy to see the amazing school it has become under Dean’s magical leadership. I’m really pleased that the report captures many of the exceptional elements that make Newsome such a special place to learn and work. The school has been completely transformed from the one Dean and the Trust inherited. Newsome is now an inclusive learning community where hearts and minds connect. Relationships are exceptional, expectations are high and our model for inclusion is one of the best in the education system.
